************************* Warrant results in drug and firearms charges
SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION - On June 11, 2009 members of the East Algoma OPP Blind River detachment received information of a possible marijuana grow operation in a residence on Serpent River First Nation.
Acting on a controlled drugs and substance search warrant, police searched the residence located on Village Road in Serpent River.
The search resulted in police locating the following:
- Suspected marijuana plants in with an estimated street value of $25,000.
- Various paraphernalia used in the production of marijuana.
- 230 grams of suspected marijuana.
- 13 long guns and a large quantity of ammunition all of which were improperly stored.
Charged are:
William James Moore, 51 years of age, of Serpent River First Nation
- Production of a controlled substance contrary to Section 7(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA).
- Possession for the purpose contrary to Section 5(2) CDSA.
- Breach of firearms regulations Section 86(2) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC).
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm Section 91(1) CCC.
Wanda Commanda, 47 years of age, of Serpent River First Nation
- Production of a controlled substance contrary to Section 7(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA).
- Possession for the purpose contrary to Section 5(2) CDSA.
- Breach of firearms regulations Section 86(2) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC).
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm Section 91(1) CCC.
William “Billy” James Moore, 31 years of age
- Production of a controlled substance contrary to Section 7(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA).
- Trafficking of a controlled substance to Section 5(1) (i) CDSA.
- Breach of firearms regulations Section 86(2) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC).
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm Section 91(1) CCC.
- Breach of probation order Section 733.1(1) CCC.
William James Moore and Wanda Commanda are scheduled to appear in Blind River Court on August 6 2009.
William “Billy” James Moore was brought to Sault Ste. Marie for a bail hearing.
