************************* East Fire Region situation report
August 11, 2007 New fires yesterday - 6 Active fires today - 22 Total fire to date - 429 Total hectares to date - 7,696
Current situation There were 13 new fires confirmed yesterday in the province.
Fires occurred in the Parry Sound (1), Sudbury (1), Bancroft (2), North Bay (2), Kenora (2), Nipigon (1) and Fort Frances (4) districts.
No control problems were encountered with these fires.
The hazard is moderate to high across most of the southern portion of the boreal zone (Thunder Bay to North Bay).
A zonal weather pattern is continuing to provide unsettled weather over the next several days with reduced fire arrivals and behaviour.
An ignition team and helicopter is assisting Michigan on the Sleeper Lake fire. They were able to complete some burnout lines on the fire Friday evening.
Ongoing fires
Thirty-six fires are currently burning in the province – six of these fires are listed as not under control and 22 are being monitored.
No control problems are expected with current fires.
