One sweet ride (6 photos)

If you are thinking this vehicle sort of looks like a snowmobile, you wouldn't be far off the mark.

It's a Military Police Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) Inc. Can-Am Spyder RT Roadster.

It's sort of a cross between a motorcycle, a snowmobile and a luxury sedan.

Corporal Chris Le Sage (shown), says he really appreciates the vehicle's safety features, sound system and storage capabilities.

The Spyder is said to be impossible to flip.

And it's one treat of a luxury ride, Le Sage told us last night when he and other Canadian Forces Military Police riders arrived at the Armouries in Sault Ste. Marie shortly before 7 p.m.

The group cruised down from Thunder Bay on Friday.

It's part of the second Military Police National Motorcycle Relay Ride(MPNMRR).

The group set out from Winnipeg on August 26 for the Ontario leg of a journey that will be taking participants across Canada and into the hearts of blind children and wounded warriors.

The relay has been coordinated in stages, said Le Sage.

At each stage, the ride mascot (a stuffed military police bear called Corporal Stone) is passed to the next participants during an official leg party and fundraising event.

The ride began in Comox, British Columbia on August 16 and will continue from west to east across the country to St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The ride will finish September 10 and a formal dining-in is planned in October at CFB Trenton.

Last year, the ride raised more than $23,000.

This year's goal is set at $50,000.

The Canadian Forces provost marshal will present cheques to the Wounded Warrior Fund and the Military Police Fund for Blind Children at the dinner in Trenton.

Corporal Le Sage will be finishing his leg of the journey, and his time with the Spyder Roadster, on August 31.

Some of the riders travelling through Ontario will continue with Cpl. Stone (the mascot) into the Quebec leg of the journey on September 1.

Watch for a story on the ride to be featured on TSN's Canadian Chopper.
