MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES

*************************** Forest fire situation update - East Fire Region

There was one new fire reported in the East Fire Region within the last 24 hours.

Sault Ste. Marie 11 was reported at 0.1 hectares and has since been called out.

Sudbury 18 has also been called out while Kirkland Lake 12 is listed as under control.

The forest fire hazard in the East Fire Region is low to moderate with a pocket of high hazard in the most southern portion of the region.

The last Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources staff in British Columbia will be returning to Ontario Wednesday, September 16 bringing to an end the largest and longest dispatch by Ontario to another jurisdiction.

Two Incident Management Teams and support staff totalling 59 personnel are scheduled for arrival at Regional Fire Management Centres in Dryden and Sudbury.

Always remember to be FireSmart.

If you're planning a campfire, remember to pick a designated campfire pit if available or choose a safe site on bare rock or soil, keep the fire small, never leave it unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site.
