One dead in Fifth Line snowmobile crash

************************* Snowmobile accident - fatality

Yesterday at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a report of a single snowmobile accident in the general vicinity of Fifth Line by the groomed trail system.

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services along with officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded.

The operator of the snowmobile, a male in his mid thirties, was alone on the sled at the time of the accident.

He sustained major injuries as a result of the accident and has since succumbed to those injuries.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

This fatality is being investigated by specialists from traffic services, officers from patrol services and forensic services along with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

No further details will be released pending the conclusion of the investigation.
