************************* Stolen plates lead to several charges

WHITE RIVER, ON - On January 14, 2011, at 12:55 p.m. Superior East OPP in White River had occasion to check a northbound 1996 Chev Lumina on Highway 17, Vasiloff Twp near White River.

A check of the Ontario licence plate revealed that the plates had been reported stolen in October 2010 by Thunder Bay Police Service.

The vehicle was stopped and the male driver was arrested for possession of the stolen plates.

As a result of further investigation a quantity of marijuana was located in the vehicle.

A check of the subject’s Ontario driver’s licence showed that he had a number of current suspensions.

Forty-eight-year-old Carlos Richter of Timmins, Ontario was subsequently charged with:

- Possess marijuana under 30 grams

- Possess property obtained by crime in relation to the Ontario licence plates

- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

- Drive motor vehicle while under suspension

- Fail to apply for vehicle permit upon becoming owner

- Use plates not authorized for vehicle.

Mr. Richter's vehicle was seized for seven days as well.

He will appear in Wawa court at a later date to answer to the charges.
