One active wildland fire in Northeast Region

Pembroke 2, a 0.1-hectare fire, was confirmed Thursday and is under control, says Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry

There is one active wildland fire in the Northeast Region, which is the only new fire since the previous report, according to a news release from Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.

Pembroke 2 (PEM002) was confirmed today May 16 and is under control. This fire 0.1-hectare fire is located along Highway 17 about 34 kilometres west of Deep River. One FireRanger crew is assigned to this fire.

Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations are now in effect for the Northeast Fire Region. At this time, updates about the fire situation will be published Mondays and Thursdays.

There is 1 active wildland fire in the Northeast Region, which is the only new fire since the last report.

  • Pembroke 2 (PEM002) was confirmed on May 16 and is under control. This fire 0.1 hectare fire is located along Highway 17 about 34 kilometres west of Deep River. One FireRanger crew is assigned to this fire.

At the time of this update, the fire hazard varies from moderate to high across the Northeast Region with pockets of low fire hazard around North Bay, along James Bay, and between Deloro and Clyde Forks in the southern part of the region.

Follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations 

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning. In order to dispose of yard waste and woody debris, we encourage you to use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations. 

Fires are to be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and are to be extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise. Always have tools/water adequate to contain the fire at the site. Know the rules for safe outdoor burning; consult the full set of  Outdoor Burning Regulations

To report a wildland fire located north of the French and Mattawa rivers, please dial 310-FIRE. To report a wildland fire located south of the French or Mattawa Rivers, please dial 9-1-1.
