In Dec. 2017, the Sault Ste. Marie Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 voted to downsize.

The decision to find a smaller location stemmed from the fact that the space was initially built in 1967 at a time when there were 3,000 members, while now membership sits at approximately 600.

Additionally, it was estimated that the 96 Great Northern Road location would need approximately $500,000 worth of repairs, an unrealistic price tag for a small membership.

Although the decision was made on the local level, the legion had to await approval from the Provincial Command and the Dominion Command to move ahead with any changes.

As of this morning, the 96 Great Northern Road space, consisting of a banquet hall with a commercial kitchen, offices, and a licenced bar, is on the market through Re/Max for $2,400,000.
