CURVES OF SAULT STE. MARIE

************************* Curves of Sault Ste. Marie gets 'physical' with Olivia Newton-John

Local women’s fitness center opens its doors to the women of Sault Ste. Marie for an inspiring event to raise awareness of breast cancer

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - October 22, 2008 - Olivia Newton-John will make a special appearance at Curves of Sault Ste. Marie on Monday, October 27 during the all-day event.

No, not in person, but on DVD - along with Curves founder Diane Heavin and world-renowned breast cancer surgeon Dr. Ernie Bodai - in an informal and educational video filmed exclusively for Curves.

The women’s fitness chain is no stranger to the fight against breast cancer - having raised millions for the cause - but this year they’re taking it a step further by helping women exercise good breast health through a partnership with Newton-John and the Liv® Aid.

The Liv® Aid is an ingenious breast self-exam tool that greatly enhances a woman’s ability in detecting an abnormality, which in many cases will lead to early detection and a better chance for a cure, according to Ernie Bodai, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Curves of Sault Ste. Marie has been giving free Liv® Aid to members and non-members all month long.

"Being a breast cancer ’thriver,’ I know that early detection is key to good breast health," says Newton-John, whose cancer was diagnosed in 1992 and who is now cancer-free.

In addition to Newton-John’s video message, Curves of Sault Ste. Marie event will feature hourly draws of prizes donated by the members of Curves to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

The two Curves locations have raised over $1,200 to date in support of this great cause.

Girl's Night In is open to members and non-members alike and will include a variety of ways for attendees to obtain free and discounted Liv® Aid.

To help Liv® Aid recipients remember to use them, they can sign up to receive complimentary monthly e-mail alerts from Newton-John.

"This is going to be a fun, educational community event - one that you’re going to want to bring all your girlfriends to," said Tracey Herriman, owner of Curves of Sault Ste. Marie, located at 626 Queen St and275 Second Line West. "We’ll be able to show women how the Liv® Aid works and talk about how maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise can significantly decrease cancer risk."
