This is a little salute to the unsung heroes of the outdoor rink.

The men, women and children who take the time to do the one winter activity no one in their right mind enjoys doing.

They are the rink shovelers.

SooToday.com found Mike Wilson, Dave Peterson, Matthew Drenth and Paul Casola clearing the sizable rink at Anna McCrea Sunday afternoon and thought they deserved a little credit.

We also stopped in at the Art Jennings Speed Skating Oval, the John Rhodes Arena and Esposito rink.

The three City-operated outdoor rinks (Esposito, Merrifield and Anna McCrea) are open Monday through Friday from 3 to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Art Jennings Speed Skating Oval's hours of operation are Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
