CITY POLICE

NEWS RELEASES

************************* Mischief reports

A large amount of obscene graffiti was spray-painted on the roadway of Wilson Street yesterday afternoon between 1:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

This has been the third reported incident involving spray painting in the past two weeks.

There were six youths, most too young to be charged criminally, dealt with by police last week for spray-painting a wall area and playground equipment at Etienne Brule Public School and a wall at the Greco Pool building.

Two of the youths, aged 12 and 13 were dealt with under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

In a separate incident, a car was spray-painted.

With Devil’s Night and Halloween fast approaching, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind the public of the following reminder:

For many pranksters, spray-painting/graffiti, egg-throwing and any other incidents of mischief involving pumpkins or other Halloween decorations being damaged are occurrences that the police often receive several reports about on and around October 30.

These pranks are considered as criminal offences, they will be investigated and charges could be laid.

If you have any information regarding these crimes, or any other crime, call at 942-7867 or 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), submit an e-tip from the Crime Stoppers web site at www.saultcrimestoppers.com or send a text to keyword SSM to the short code number 274637.
