Dear SooToday.com staff:

On behalf of the peace and conflict studies diploma program, as well as the Sault College WUSC Committee, thank you so much for your support in making our first hosting of a Ten Thousand Village Fair Trade Gift Sale a huge success!

It was important to faculty and students of the peace and conflict studies diploma program to organize this event because themes of sustainable development, gender equality, human rights and social justice are central to what we study.

Partnering with Ten Thousand Villages was an opportunity to engage in effective global citizenship and put some of the ideals of peace and conflict studies into practice.

The sales from this festival exceed $15, 000 and proceeds go directly to the hardworking artisans who contributed their work. For hosting the sale, the peace and conflict studies diploma program is allowed to keep 10 percent of the revenue.

All of this money will be donated to support the WUSC student refugee sponsorship program at Sault College.

We are currently supporting our first student this year from South Sudan and we are working to support another refugee student beginning in the fall of 2013.

The amazing community support we received this past weekend directly supports student refugees living in the Algoma district.

Thank you.

After our first day of sales on Friday, November 16, we practically sold out of all of the merchandise that was sent to us.

This speaks to the enormous level of interest and support that Sault Ste. Marie residents have for fair trade and cultural diversity.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event possible and to all who attended the sale over the weekend.

We are sorry that we ran out of product earlier than we anticipated and we are already working with Ten Thousand Villages to bring this festival back to Sault College next year November 15 and 16, 2013 with much more product.

With immense gratitude for a caring and conscientious community,

- The peace and conflict studies diploma program and Sault College WUSC Committee
