SOO FINNISH NORDIC SKI CLUB

NEWS RELEASE ********************** The Sault Trails and Recreation Organization (STAR) is in the process of being dissolved by its partner members.

With the dissolution of STAR, all of its assets (groomers, grooming equipment, rental skis, etc.) passed to the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club.

The STAR board made this decision since the Soo Finnish Ski Club is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of cross-country skiing in Sault Ste Marie.

With the receipt of these assets came the job of providing the entire skiing concession for the community of Sault Ste Marie.

The Ski Club enters its 50th year as an organization, and with this new challenge ahead, we know we are not getting older, we are getting better!

We are currently negotiating a land use agreement with the Kinsmen Club and a Proposal is being finalized for submission to the Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority. Check out the Request for Proposal at www.ssmrca.ca]

We know we can count on these partners to support us in this new endeavour to provide a viable cross-country skiing venue to our citizens of Sault Ste. Marie.

In the coming months, all of the organizational tasks of mounting and operating a cross-country ski facility will have to be addressed and completed, and as a volunteer organization, we will look to expand our current volunteer base to help us achieve this daunting task.

Whether it is trail clearing, volunteering some organizational skills, helping out with the Jackrabbit Program, or just being sure to buy your ski pass early and then get out to ski early and often once the snow comes our way again.

If you have any questions, or want to offer some time and help, please feel free to contact any member of the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club executive.

Check the Ski Club website for contact information to see how the progress is coming along www.soofinnishnordic.com
