A Collège Boréal board member is recognized as one of this year’s “Canada’s Most Powerful Women"

SUDBURY - The Women’s Executive Network (WXN) recently announced the recipients of the 2011 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards.

This award celebrates the professional achievements of women across the country.

The College is very proud to announce that one of its board members, Eva Carissimi, Sudbury Smelter director, Xstrata Nickel, was chosen as a recipient of this distinguished award for her community involvement and career achievements.

“The College is honoured to have supported the nomination of Eva Carissimi,” notes the President of Collège Boréal, Mr. Denis Hubert-Dutrisac. “Since 2009, Eva’s vision and commitment to the College have played a key role in the implementation of green initiatives. Her unconditional support has resulted in the creation of the Xstrata Nickel Biodiversity Applied Research Center. This partnership gives our students unique opportunities to gain valuable expertise in the field of forestry while contributing in a substantive way to the reforestation of our region.”

Eva Carissimi, who was nominated in the Trailblazers and Trendsetters category, is honoured to have received this national recognition as one of the highest achieving female leaders in the private sector: “My work and my community continue to be a daily source of inspiration for me. By investing time in both Xstrata Nickel and Collège Boréal, I hope to have positively contributed to a natural synergy between two complementary sectors of interest, that is, industry and education.”

Finally, Eva Carissimi has just been promoted to the position of vice-president, operations, CEZ, Xstrata Zinc.

She will be based in Valleyfield, Quebec, starting in January 2012.

At this time, Collège Boréal congratulates Ms. Carissimi for her recent appointment and wishes her much success in her new position.

Promoting knowledge and a vibrant culture

This is Collège Boréal’s vision, a French-language institution of postsecondary and skills training that has contributed to the growth and development of communities in Northern and Central-Southwestern Ontario since its foundation in 1995.

Collège Boréal also encourages the values of humanism, excellence and inclusion, as well as an active awareness of environmental issues that affect our society.

Collège Boréal is the first education sector representative officially designated by the Government of Ontario under the French Language Services Act.
