SAULT STE. MARIE, ON. - A Sault Ste. Marie man was given some hefty fines for driving way too fast over the weekend.

On Sunday morning at about 12:30 a.m. an officer with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit was traveling on Highway 17 near the City limits.

The officer clocked a vehicle traveling in excess of 40 kilometers over the speed limit.

The vehicle was pulled over and the driver had a G2 driver's licence.

The driver was given a breath test and found to be under the legal limit but over the allowable level for a G2 driver's licence.

Twenty-one-year-old Michael Digasparo of Lennox Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie was given tickets worth $412 for the two offences.

Easter weekend traffic enforcement SAULT STE. MARIE, ON. - Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie detachment continue to focus efforts on the OPP's renewal of traffic enforcement and traffic safety.

Between the calls for service and some unseasonable weather, officers issued 91 tickets over the Easter Long weekend.

Speeding and seat belt violations lead the list of infractions that officers found.

OPP officers will continue to conduct an aggressive traffic enforcement campaign throughout our detachment area.

Officers are conducting spot checks on daily basis looking for people who do not buckle up and those who continue to drink and drive.
