There's still no Liberal candidate for the Sault Ste. Marie riding, despite the 2022 Ontario election campaign officially kicking off Wednesday.

But Ontario Liberal Party spokesperson Will Wuehr told SooToday that the party intends to nominate a candidate when reached by email Tuesday.

"Thanks for reaching out! We look forward to nominating our candidate for Sault Ste. Marie in the near future," Wuehr said.

Wuehr advised SooToday that the Liberals will issue a press release when a candidate is named.

Local defence lawyer Naomi Sayers was recently turned down by the Liberals as candidate for Sault Ste. Marie. Sayers told SooToday last week that her application was rejected due in part to her presence on social media.
