In these tough times, can the State of Michigan afford to maintain the summer residence of Governor Jennifer Granholm on Mackinac Island?
Anti-tax activist Leon Drolet was on the island this week, standing near the stately manor with a sign reading "luxury mansion for sale."
Drolet wants the historic home sold to help with state's budget and save jobs.
He says selling the place could bring in an estimated $3.2 million and prevent the layoffs of approximately 36 state troopers.
However, the residence is owned by the Mackinac Island State Park Commission, which may not be able to sell it because of a clause requiring its return to the original title-holder, the federal government. Additional coverage of this story
