NFL suspends head coach for year over injury scandal

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton won't be running the team next season. The NFL has suspended him for one year because his team had a "bounty" program. According to the league, players received bonuses for injuring opponents.

According to the league, players received bonuses for injuring opponents.

In addition, former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams (now with the St. Louis Rams)  has been suspended indefinitely and Saints assistant head coach Joe Vitt will be forced to sit out the team's first six games.

Further, Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis has been suspended for next season's first eight games.

The Saints' punishment also includes the loss of draft picks and a $500,000 fine.
