"My mother moved here to give me a better life, like many of our ancestors before us," says Luis Moreno, who went to the Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre Wednesday to file nomination papers to run for Ward 3 councillor.
"An eloquent and professional woman, she traded her job as a lawyer in Mexico to working minimum-wage jobs in Canada to ensure that I could have a better future. She taught me to work hard for the things I want, and she also taught me the lesson that I cannot spend what I haven’t earned," Moreno said.
The municipal election will take place on Oct. 24.
Deadline to file paperwork to run is Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.
