The Algoma Workforce Investment Committee (AWIC) announces a new sponsorship program to support events and activities that promote labour market development

The Algoma Workforce Investment Committee (AWIC) is pleased to announce a new sponsorship program that provides up to $500 in support of eligible events or activities that advance labour market development.

"The Directors of AWIC are convinced there is a need to help external projects that fit with the mandate of AWIC," says Dan Friyia, chair of AWIC’s Board of Directors. "I am very pleased that we are committing sponsorship dollars to support these important projects."

One such project that has already received AWIC sponsorship is the Algoma and Manitoulin Youth Business Camp.

The camp is for youth aged 9-13 interested in starting a business.

It takes place at Algoma University and is managed by the Community Futures Development Corporations in Algoma-Manitoulin.

Thirty campers from Dubreuilville to Manitoulin Island will attend from August 13 to 17, learning the basics of business in a fun and interactive setting.

Campers will learn how to determine the type of business they are interested in, and, using a team approach, will develop product and operate their business for one day.

“Business for a Day” will take place at the Station Mall on August 17.

AWIC’S mission is to identify workforce issues that affect communities in the Algoma District and to provide solutions to these issues by engaging local stakeholders and partners.

The organization’s role is to provide a link between job seekers, employers and skills development services.
