************************* Subcommittee announces hearing on the Deepwater Horizon rig oil spill

Today Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak announced that the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing on the causes of the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion and oil spill on Wednesday, May 12, at 10 a.m. in Room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearing will examine the adequacy of the companies' safety measures and emergency response to the incident, and the status of recovery efforts.

Chairman Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Stupak sent letters to Lamar McKay of BP America, Inc., Steve Newman of Transocean Ltd., and David J. Lesar of Halliburton Co. requesting their testimony at the hearing.
