FOREST FIRE UPDATE

************************* East Regional situation report

June 30, 2007 New Fires Yesterday - 4

Active Fires Today - 8

Total Fires To Date - 230

Total Hectares To Date - 2,830

Current situation There were five new fires reported yesterday which occurred in the Algonquin Park , Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, Cochrane and Sioux Lookout districts.

The majority of these fires were human-caused but no suppression problems were encountered.

The fire hazard is low to moderate through the province.

Cooler but drier air moved into the province and we expect to pick up additional hold-over lightning fires in areas where fuels were susceptible.

The north shore of Lake Huron has not received the same levels of precipitation as most other areas in the province.

Sixty-seven staff returned from Quebec yesterday leaving 137 fire staff working mainly on Fire 482 in the Chibougamou area.

Ongoing fires

No Concerns
