************************* Sault author publishes the literary memoir a region and a generation have long awaited

On Saturday, May 24, at 6 p.m. at Loplop Lounge and Gallery, 651 Queen St. East, Sault Ste. Marie, Your Scrivener Press is launching a remarkable new memoir from Sault author George Case.

Arcadia Borealis: Childhood and Youth in Northern Ontario is destined to become a Sault classic for a new generation.

Imagine Morley Torgov’s A Good Place to Come From for Gen-Xers; or Stephen King’s "Stand By Me" set in the lands around Lake Superior; Thomas Wolfe’s Look Homeward, Angel for the country of the Group of Seven.

“George Case is funny, nostalgic and unsparing,” says F.G. Paci of Arcadia Borealis, a memoir “of life in the Sault in the mid-'80s when the plant was having difficulty and the economy was spiraling.”

Case was raised in Sault Ste. Marie, left when he was 20 in 1987, and returned last year, at 40, with his wife and daughters.

In spring 2007, he published the story of enigmatic Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page - Magus, Musician, Man - to excellent reviews across North America.

Arcadia Borealis is a series of reflective memories that opens with pieces on Case’s childhood, where the mundane becomes magical, continues with his late teen years, where he and his buddies hunker down in small apartments over late-'60s and early-'70s classic rock and “refreshments” and prepare for the “inevitable” exodus from town, and concludes with pieces reflecting on his recent return to a town that is now two places: a past and a present, that don’t quite mesh.

Join the author at Loplop on May 24 at 6 for a reading, a signing and classic rock played by George and friends.

Free admission! Refreshments available from Loplop.

George will also be signing earlier in the day at Coles in the Station Mall from 1 to 3 on May 24.
