Two weeks ago today, the Algoma Health Unit issued a boil-water advisory for the Forest Glen Subdivision of Blind River after coliforms were discovered in the water there.

Today, the advisory was expanded to include all of Blind River.

The following is the full text of the Algoma Health Unit's latest advisory:

************* To Consumers of the Town of Blind River Water Supply

Blind River, ON – As a precaution, the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Allan Northan is advising users of the town of Blind River water supply to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one-minute prior to using it for domestic purposes. (e.g. making infant formula and juice, brushing teeth, washing raw roods and making ice)

The reason for the advisory is that the drinking water has exceeded the requirements for Total Coliforms in Ontario Regulation 170/03 (Drinking Water Act)

If you have a well on your property that is still connected to your residence or business, this must be permanently disconnected.

A special sampling program is being implemented throughout the entire Blind River water system.

The advisory will remain in place until such time as the water throughout the distribution system is safe to drink.
