NEWS RELEASE
DAVID M. KELLY
*************************
Sci-fi author David M. Kelly, who lives just outside Sudbury, will be returning to this year’s Nerd-Con in the Sault. New for this year, he will be bringing copies of his brand new release, Transformation Protocol, the third book in his Joe Ballen sci-fi thriller series. Plus there will be a chance to win a set of David's books along with a subscription to Canadian sci-fi magazine Neo-opsis.

David is excited about this year’s new venue and the chance to visit the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in its 30th anniversary year. “I’d never encountered bushplanes before I moved to Ontario,” he says. “So I’m looking forward to the opportunity to get up close with some of these beautiful old planes and learn more about them.”

He’s a bit of a vintage plane enthusiast having visited the RAF museum in Cosford, England and the Smithsonian’s Air & Space Museum. It was there that he got to see perhaps the ultimate space plane—the Discovery shuttle.

The Joe Ballen series is centred around space exploration and humanity’s drive to move beyond Earth, and David sees a lot of parallels between the early bushplane pilots and astronauts.

“The bushplane pilots were pioneers and explorers, charting the unknown. To do that job, or to work in space, I think you need extreme bravery and resilience, not to mention a spirit of adventure!”

And of course, as a space junkie, he’s also looking forward to visiting the special exhibition on Dr. Roberta Bondar, the first Canadian woman in space. “I’ll have to make sure I get there very early well before the show starts. I’m going to need lots of time to look around!”

You can meet David between 12-6 p.m. on Sept 28 at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste Marie. Stop by to chat about space, planes, or your favourite sci-fi reads.
