The name of the deceased pedestrian in the collision is Matthew Howard, age 19, of Sault Ste. Marie.

Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service traffic service section are still investigating this collision.

At this time, charges have not been laid.

**************************** Original 7:20 a.m. release

On Sunday, February 28 at approximately 3 a.m., officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a pedestrian/ single motor vehicle collision on Queen Street East near Lorna Drive.

Initial investigation revealed that a 19-year-old male who had been walking in an easterly direction on Queen Street had been struck by a motor vehicle that was also traveling east on Queen Street East.

The 19-year-old male was transported by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 32-year-old male driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was not injured.

The name of the deceased is not being released pending the notification of next of kin.

The collision currently is being investigated by officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service traffic services section.
