Missing snowmobiler in Goulais Bay
 
Located deceased

FENWICK TWP, ONOn Sunday, January 15, 2012, at approximately 12 p.m. OPP were contacted to search for a missing snowmobiler in Fenwick Township in the Goulais River area.

Forty-four year-old Norman Patrick Pitt had left a residence on Old Goulais Bay Road on his snowmobile shortly before midnight on Saturday, January 14, 2012. 

He was driving his snowmobile down the shoreline of the Goulais River towards his residence near the entrance of Goulais Bay.

On Sunday morning he was found not to be at his residence on Mission Road and local residents and family began to search the area.

OPP, Sault Search and Rescue, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department and Goulais River Fire and Rescue were contacted and attended the area.

At approximately 5:30 pm Sunday evening, January 15, 2012, the deceased was located by OPP helicopter in open water several hundred metres off the shoreline in Goulais Bay near the entrance to Lake Superior.

A post mortem is scheduled for today.
