SooToday.com has received the following letter from the mother of a local soldier currently stationed at CFB Petawawa:
************************* Good morning, My name is Deborah Dipole [name changed at the request of the writer] and I am writing to you this morning with a saddened heart upon hearing of the passing of Cpl. Vernelli.
I have a son who is in the 49th Field Regiment and is currently away in Petawawa, and now the reality of war has hit home.
I have a "support our troops" sign on my front lawn and the other day while I was outside a vehicle stopped and the male inside got out and told me I was rude and a horrible person for supporting the war.
I replied that I don't support the war, just the courageous men and women that serve.
He then proceeded to flip me the bird and call me a bitch.
Maybe this bothered me because it hits close to home.
I never really took notice of what goes on at the Sault Armoury, but now I see the trucks driving around and see more of the training going on as maybe others have, too.
The people in this town need to educate themselves as to what a fine job that "our" troops here in the Sault are doing.
As for myself, I am very proud of my son for what he has chosen to do and if you see one of our troops, stop and say thank you. *************************
