********************** Update - OPP investigating sudden death

KEARNS, ON - Officers from the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Colleen McCormick of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) of OPP General Headquarters in Orillia continue their investigation into the sudden death of a couple which occurred in Kearns, Ontario.

Police were initially called to the Hummel Avenue residence in Kearns at approximately 7 p.m. on September 30, 2010.

A post mortem examination was performed on the two deceased on Monday October 4, 2010, at the Coroners Office in Toronto.

Investigators have determined the deaths to be as a result of a murder-suicide.

The victims have been positively identified as Joanne Cooke, age 36 and Marco Gagne, age 36, both of Kearns, Ontario.

Joanne Cooke died from her injuries sustained from being shot by Marco Gagne who died as a result of his self-inflicted gun shot wound.
