Former prime minister Brian Mulroney is testifying today at the Oliphant inquiry examining his relationship with German-Canadian businessman Karlheinz Schreiber.
"The Karlheinz Schreiber that I knew in 1993 was not the man that we know here today," Mulroney said.
He said that, at the time, he considered Schreiber a respected business figure capable of creating hundreds of Canadian jobs.
Mulroney said he concealed his dealings with Schreiber to avoid speculation similar to that which dogged him in the Airbus case.
