Muio's, the downtown eatery that never, ever, ever changes, will close at 2 p.m. Sunday for extensive renovations expected to take five days.

The restaurant will remain closed until the following Friday, and when it re-opens, it will be 100 percent smoke-free, said Rob Direnzo, who shares ownership of the popular establishment with Ken Goodship.

The renovations will cost $25,000 and will include new historic photographs of the Queen/East neighbourhood currently being processed at Camera Craft, Direnzo said.

Direnzo assures us that another popular feature, the Sault Greyhounds Memorial Cup hockey shrine, will be retained at the back of the restaurant.

But one other quaint eccentricity will be gone when Muio's re-opens.

Direnzo is planning to take a heat gun to the rows and rows of annual Chamber of Commerce membership stickers on Muio's front window glass.

EDITOR'S NOTE: SooToday News was contacted twice today by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, which says some of its members are calling, expressing concern that the last line of the above article might leave the impression that Muio's is removing its extraordinary collection of renewal stickers out of frustration with the Chamber. We checked today with Rob Direnzo, who wants to assure everyone that Muio's remains a proud Chamber member (as it has been since 1948) and the idea was only to reduce the massive sticker collection to one current sticker. But in view of the reaction, Direnzo is now re-thinking the issue and says he might decide to leave the unique window just as it is. SooToday News will keep you posted on this issue of vital public interest.
