REAL WOMEN OF CANADA - SAULT

*********************** Ignatieff comes to the Sault, but will Tony Martin be there?

SAULT STE. MARIE - (May 3) - "We’re not exactly sure why Ignatieff is coming to town,"said Linda Walker of Real Women of Canada – Sault, referring to Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff’s visit to Sault Ste. Marie this week.

“Perhaps he wants personally to thank NDP MP Tony Martin for supporting the recent Liberal pro-abortion motion introduced by Martin’s old boss Bob Rae,” added Linda.

Bob Rae’s motion, supported by Tony Martin and the NDP, called on the government of Canada to include abortion services as part of the Canadian plan to address maternal and child health at the upcoming G8 Summit, scheduled to take place in Muskoka this coming June.

Rae's motion stated that any maternal health plan "must include the full range of family planning, sexual and reproductive health options," which would have included the financing of abortions for developing countries in parts of Africa, Asia and elsewhere.

“We weren’t surprised at Ignatieff’s support for Bob Rae’s pro-abortion motion, but we continue to be amazed and disappointed every time Tony Martin votes for one of these extreme pro-abortion and anti-family motions or bills,” said Mrs. Walker of Real Women

“We still haven’t forgotten his betrayal of Sault-area constituents in 2005 when the NDP Tony Martin voted for Liberal Paul Martin’s same -sex marriage law,” Linda added, recalling the problems that Martin encountered when voting to change the definition of marriage to include homosexual unions.

Now, in the spring of 2010, Tony Martin supported this latest pro-abortion motion, which, despite having the support of the NDP and Bloc Quebecois, was defeated 144 to 138 on March 22, 2010.

Local Sault residents will remember that Tony Martin was a loyal member of Bob Rae’s NDP government from 1990 to 1995, the most pro-abortion government in Ontario’s history.

Tony Martin towed the NDP party line when he was on Bob Rae’s team, and continues to follow Bob Rae on the abortion question now that Rae is part of Ignatieff’s Liberal team.

“Now that Ignatieff, Rae and Tony Martin have failed in their efforts in Parliament to force abortion on the developing world, Real Women (Sault) congratulates Prime Minister Stephen Harper for his proposal that would promote maternal and infant healthcare in the developing world at the G8 and G20 Conferences, without any funding for international abortion,” said Linda Walker.

“This care will include safe water and good pregnancy treatment and care before and after the child is born.”
