SooToday.com received the following announcement today from the Arthur Funeral Home and Cremation Centre regarding Nora Booth.

********************************* BOOTH (nee Taylor), Nora Elizabeth (1918-2010) – On Monday, November 8, 2010 at War Memorial Hospital, Nora passed away peacefully at the wonderful age of 92, with her devoted daughter, Marcia, at her side.

Beloved wife of the late Edward “Bill” Booth (2002) and loving mother of Marcia Candido (late Albert 2005) and the late Sharon Moore (1982) (late Gene 2005).

Very dear grandmother “Lala” of Shari Dunn (David) of Amherstburg, ON, Joseph Candido (Melissa) of Windsor, ON and Will Moore of Downers Grove, Illinois.

Proud great grandmother of Chenoa Moore (Wisconsin), Emma, Daniel and Abby Dunn and Jack Candido.

We were very blessed to have “Lala” in our lives for so long.

She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Vera Taylor, along with many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Casa and Edith Taylor and her siblings Horace Taylor (late Vi), Stan “Jack” Taylor (Vera), Dorothy Barker (late John), Gladys Wright (late Phil) and Margaret “Peggy” Weigly (late Peter), as well as her sister-in-law June Dovigi (late Ralph).

Nora was born June 22, 1918 in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

She was a graduate of Tarentorus PS #2, Collegiate Institute and the North Bay Teachers College.

Her first teaching job (Grades 1 thru 8) was in a one-room school on Landslide Road, Tarentorus PS #1, and because it was ‘so far’ from her home on Tilley Road, it was necessary for her to board with the McMullin family on Landslide Road at Fourth Line, where she would ski to school in winter and home on weekends.

Following their marriage in 1940, Nora and Bill lived in Pontiac and Clarkston, Michigan where she taught for 26 years as a reading specialist while attaining her master of education.

They retired to Deltona, Florida in 1985 and were wonderful hosts to many of their family and friends over the years.

They also travelled extensively.

Nora returned north in 2004 to be closer to her family and has resided in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan since that time.

She moved into Freighter View Assisted Living about one and a half years ago and was very happy and content there making many dear friends.

Our sincere thanks to the staff for their excellent care, compassion, respect and love which allowed her to live out her final years with dignity and some independence.

Thank you to the residents of Freighter View “her other family” for their love and friendship.

We also wish to express our gratitude to the staff and physicians at War Memorial Hospital (2nd floor) for the wonderful care provided to Nora and the kindness and compassion shown to our family during her final five days.

Our heartfelt thanks to Nora’s niece, Carole Parton and special friend, Coyla Graver, for their love, support and friendship during the past six years.

Although Nora was faced with many challenges and health related issues over the years, we are very grateful that she passed with grace and dignity.

Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 492 Wellington St E, Sault Ste. Marie, ON on Friday, November 12, 2010 from 5 p.m. until time of service in the chapel at 7 p.m.

Father Eric Pannike officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) would be appreciated by the family.

Expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.arthurfuneralhome.com.
