Provincial funding enhances appearance of local hall

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – David Orazietti, MPP announced today that the Loyal Order of Moose – Sault Ste. Marie Lodge No. 535 (Moose Lodge) is receiving an $8,500 grant from the McGuinty government through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to install new flooring in the main hall.

“The Moose Lodge has been an important part of our community for many years,” said Orazietti. “Our investment through the Ontario Trillium Foundation will enhance the appeal of the hall, attract new interest and help generate more revenue for the members of the lodge.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Moose Lodge was incorporated in March 1980 although there has been an active Moose Lodge in the community for over 75 years.

It has over 300 members and is the centre of the lodge’s fundraising activities and community events. “We are grateful to the provincial government for providing funding to install the new carpet in the hall,” said John Fagan, governor of the lodge. “It’s very much appreciated.”

The hall is available free of charge for community groups such as the Fibromyalgia Association, the Heart Support Group and a ladies craft group to use for meetings and fundraising activities.

The hall is also rented for weddings and other private functions.

In 2007, the Moose Lodge donated over $10,500 to various local charitable organizations.

Other McGuinty government investments and support to local groups total over two million dollars and include organizations such as:

- $75,000 Sault Ste. Marie Skatepark. - $40,000 Shadows of the Mind Film Festival. - $80,000 Sault International Youth Association. - $40,000 Christy’s Light Foundation. - $40,000 Phoenix Rising Non-Profit Homes Inc. - $30,000 Canadian Hearing Society. - $48,800 Sault Search and Rescue. - $75,000 Soo Curlers Association. - $128,000 Habitat for Humanity. - $35,000 United Way of Sault Ste. The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Government of Ontario and supports the growth and vitality of communities across the province.
