David and Noran, Grade 6 students at Anna McCrea Public School in Sault Ste. Marie, became SooToday.com reporters for a day.

Their school had a special visitor today, a monster truck, after winning a Rock 101 Radio contest.

"The Grade 6 and Senior Kindergarten students [had] teamed up in a literacy activity to persuade readers why monster trucks should visit their school," said Frank Greco, the school's principal. "So on Friday morning, after being selected as the winning entry, Easy Rider visited the school on the back of a big flatbed transport."

The following are David and Noran's accounts of today's big event: ************************* The experience of a lifetime

This is a story for the history books.

Not only because it’s at school, but it’s because it’s an event so big, it will blow your mind!

How often does a school get to have Easy Rider, the monster truck, come to visit?

The chances are probably one in 1,000,000!

Anna McCrea’s Grade 6 and kindergarten classes teamed up in order to persuade Easy Rider to come to our school.

I knew all of those persuasion letters our teachers made us do would come in handy.

The excited kindergartens dictated and the Grade 6 wrote.

We finally finished about 25 letters, sent them in to Rock 101 and by Monday, we learned Anna McCrea had won.

Thanks Rock 101!

Rumour has it that another truck may come too!

Two trucks at the same time! I can’t wait!

************************* Monster truck mission

If you happened to walk into the library at Anna McCrea Public School on May 7, 2008, you would have been amazed.

Kindergarten and Grade 6 students worked together diligently to acquire a monster truck appearance, on school grounds, for Friday May 16, 2008.

Their job was to write a letter, persuading the truck to come to their school.

Both grades demonstrated cooperation, fairness, respect, perseverance and many other great character attributes encouraged by the district.

Older students showed immense leadership skills and took full responsibility for their kindergarten buddies.

Their hard work paid off and the school will be enjoying Easy Rider, their well-earned prize.

Hopefully the winners of the competition will demonstrate another attribute - citizenship - to other schools that did not do as well.
