Monday update on Queen St East weekend fatality

CITY POLICE NEWS RELEASE

************************* Update The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Traffic Investigation Unit, Forensic Unit, along with the Coroner’s Office is continuing the investigation at this time.

A post-mortem was conducted this morning to determine the cause of death of the deceased.

Information thus far indicates that the deceased died as a result of injuries he sustained in the collision. Toxicology examinations were conducted on the deceased and the results will not be known for some time.

Preliminary Investigation indicates that the deceased male was walking eastbound on Queen Street East near Lorna Drive with another individual when he was struck by a 2009 Hyundai Sante Fe that was eastbound on Queen Street East being operated by a 32-year-old male.

The deceased succumbed to major injuries he received as a result of the collision.

Traffic Services advised that the driver was interviewed at the scene and at this time alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.

At this time no charges have been laid.

Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses at this time and there are no further details to be released.
