They haven't made a big fuss about it, but Café Natüra at 75 Elgin Street has quietly become the first Sault eatery to offer all-local meals.

Taking advantage of the fresh, locally grown produce offered twice a week at Algoma Farmers Market, Café Natüra has started featuring two specials a week comprised entirely of healthy Algoma yumminess.

Every Monday and Thursday, patrons can feast on the finest produce our region has to offer.

Nutritional consultant Kelly Burton admits to SooToday.com that local meals make menu-planning a bit difficult, since she's completely at the mercy of what the market has to offer.

Shopping at the market is also slightly more expensive in the short-term than heading to the nearest supermarket.

But Burton says that "supporting local sustainable markets is far more beneficial in the long run."

"I think everybody should be doing this," she added.

Café Natüra also serves a fresh Friday catch featuring fish purchased from the Batchewana First Nation.

"Can I tell you about something else we do that I think is really cool?" Burton asked us near the end of our conversation. "All of our produce kitchen scraps are collected and given to a local farmer for chicken feed. Other table scraps are made into compost."

Café Natüra is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
