Mississauga man caught with handgun, driving stolen Benz

**************************** Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Emergency Services Unit, Investigations Unit and Patrol Services arrested 24-year-old Saad Basith of 2795 Quill Crescent, Mississauga, Ontario on the 2nd of November at 6:35 p.m. on Bay Street and charged him with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm while prohibited, one count of possession of a firearm in a vehicle and one count of breach of probation.

It is alleged that at that time officers found the accused to be in possession of a stolen 2004 Mercedes Benz that was reported taken in a car jacking incident in the Mississauga area on the 23rd of October.

Officers located a handgun inside the vehicle and discovered that plates on the vehicle were also stolen.

At the time the accused was on a prohibition order with conditions that he not be in possession of any firearms, and further, he did not have a licence to have possession of a firearm.

The accused was also on a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be good.

The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.
