GOULAIS TOWNSHIP, ON -  At approximately 5:15 p.m. on August 4, 2016 Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 911 call regarding a capsized vessel in Haviland Bay on Lake Superior.

At approximately 4 p.m. on August 4, 2016 two males headed out on Lake Superior in a 12 foot aluminum boat with a six horse power motor.  Weather conditions at the time were sunny and windy with waves from two to three feet high.

The boat was approximately 250 feet from shore when it capsized. Life jackets were in the boat but not worn.  A 23 and a 25-year-old male swam towards the shoreline. 

The 23-year-old male made it safely to shore. The 25-year-old local man disappeared from sight in the water.  

The missing male has been identified as Dewayne Shreve, 25 years of age, from Goulais Township. He has brown short hair and was last seen wearing jean shorts and with no shirt. 

OPP Aviation services, JRCC Trenton and OPP Marine Units have conducted an extensive ground and air search with negative results.  

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) arrived at the scene at approximately 4:00 pm. on August 5, 2016.  USRU has suspended the search for the night and will resume in the morning.

The search is continuing.
