************************* Military helicopter lands north of City due to inclement weather

AWERES TWP, ON – Anyone driving past the Ministry of Transportation weigh scales on Highway 17 in Aweres Township might be wondering why a Canadian military helicopter is resting in the parking lot.

Yesterday at around 5:30 p.m., OPP were called to advise that a military chopper with a crew of three personnel en route from Halifax were forced to land at the weigh scales due to the inclement weather.

The exterior lighting to the building was activated and the helicopter and crew members landed without incident.

The helicopter is set to resume its flight schedule this morning.

************************* OPP 'Stuff-A-Cruiser' at Rome's a success

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - Members of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP auxillary unit and the Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment were on hand at Rome’s Independent Grocers on Saturday, December 13 collecting food donations for the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen.

Officers were accepting donations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Three O.P.P. vehicles (one SUV, one truck, and one cruiser) were filled to capacity with both perishable and non-perishable goods.

Five hundred dollars in cash donations were also accepted on behalf of the Soup Kitchen.

Mr. Ron Sim, food services coordinator for the Soup Kitchen, accepted the donations and estimated the value of the groceries to be $15,000.

This was the fourth annual Stuff-A-Cruiser event held at Rome’s Independent Grocer.

Rome’s graciously donated a full pallet of groceries towards the event.

Once again, the overwhelming generosity of the community has helped to replenish the shelves at the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen.

Hats off the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie!

Thank you for your support.
