Mike Moore & Sons Construction Ltd. is typically involved with big things.

Like Jack Purvis's intermodal warehouse and distribution centre.

And the Flakeboard plant.

So when the company's staff and head honchos gathered yesterday in front of their offices on Industrial Court B (off Third Line), you knew it would be about something really big.

The Sault-based company and its employees presented a cheque for $250,000 to the New Sault Area Hospital Campaign.

It also got a special reward, a giant gold stake, for achieving 100 percent employee participation. Mike Moore employees issued a challenge to other businesses in the Sault to match its 100 percent employee participation.

If your company (with 25 or more employees) can do that, they'll turn over their big gold stake to your company at a special presentation ceremony.

Here's some background, as provided by the hospital campaign committee:

********************* Mike Moore & Sons Construction claims big stake in the new Sault Area Hospital

Sets company donor benchmark with 100 percent employee participation Mike Moore is an obsessive builder.

He loves seeing new projects take shape.

He formed Mike Moore & Sons Construction Ltd. in 1989.

Since then, he has been building projects throughout Northern Ontario with a staff that has grown to 35 employees.

So when the new Sault Area Hospital campaign adopted the theme, 'Build It!,' his natural instincts surfaced and he began pledge-raising.

The results were dramatic!

Beginning with a personal letter to staff, Mike encouraged them to be generous with their donations, perhaps spreading them over more than one year.

He promised their generosity would be matched with a corporate donation.

The results were an impressive combined pledge of $250,000.

However one fact became even more impressive.

Mike inspired his staff to fully participate by writing: "This is not a donation directed at a single cause or group. It is a donation that is directed to the Sault Ste. Marie area, over 115,000 people. This donation is directed at newborns, pregnant women, young children, young adults, middle age persons, seniors, cancer patients, accident victims, abuse victims, substance abuse victims, the sick, the healthy, the frail, the mentally and physically challenged and many more. It is a donation that does not favour any particular group, it recognizes the wealthy and the poor, all ethnic groups and all religions. I realize that this is an incredible commitment but it can be done with everyone's help."

One hundred percent of the staff proudly participated.
