After 21 years at the helm of Algoma Steel's largest union, Mike Da Prat has been re-elected to another 36-month term.

Adam Guizzetti, chair of the 2,200-member United Steelworkers election committee, announced Da Prat's re-election after voting yesterday at the Marconi Hall, 450 Albert St. W.

Mark Molinaro was elected vice-president.

Bob Roussain is financial secretary.

Marino Degregorio is treasurer.

Election results for trustees and grievance committee will be released to the membership later today.

The new three-year term of office starts in May.

Local 2251's membership is down approximately 800 members since Da Prat's leadership began in 2003.

It's expected to drop further after the steelmaker's new electric arc furnaces are up and running.

In recent weeks, Da Prat has been heavily involved in fighting Group Heath Centre's decision to de-roster 10,000 patients, including many Steelworkers and retirees, effective May 31.
