The Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services has announced the closure of the Service Ontario office in Blind River.

Service Ontario is a Government initiative that was created to give Ontarians an easy, cost-effective way to access government services.

The Blind River Service Ontario office is a necessary resource for the community and surrounding area.

The closure of this location will be devastating to the region. Residents will be unnecessarily forced to travel great distances to access the essential services delivered by Service Ontario.

This will cause undue stress and financial hardship to the most vulnerable citizens of the community as we will now have to resort to private transportation to get there.

In addition, forcing citizens to leave town in order to receive services will have a direct impact on the economy of the community by encouraging out of town shopping.

The government made a commitment to all Ontarians to ensure easy, cost-effective access to government services. It is the government’s responsibility and duty to ensure that everyone has access to these services.

On Friday, June 10 there will be a rally in front of the Service Ontario office at 62 Queen’s Avenue in Blind River from noon until 2 p.m.
