Sault College announced today that Jeff Zabudsky, its vice president academic, has been appointed president of Red River College in Winnipeg.

With 32,000 full and part-time enrolments each year and more than 110 diploma, certificate and apprenticeship programs, Red River College describes itself as Manitoba's largest and most comprehensive institute of applied learning.

Zabudsky will be replaced here by Judi Maundrell, a 15-year Sault College veteran.

Maundrell is currently both executive dean, academic and dean of the school of health sciences.

************************** New vice president, academic named

Sault College president Dr. Timothy Meyer has announced that Judi Maundrell will succeed Jeff Zabudsky as the institution’s vice president, academic.

Zabudsky will be leaving the college to become president of Red River College in Manitoba.

“I congratulate Jeff on his success in the competition at Red River, thank him for his contributions to Sault College and wish him well as he moves into a very challenging position,” said Dr. Meyer.

Commenting on his time at Sault College, Zabudsky said, “It has been an honour to work as part of Dr. Meyer's team. Sault College has a bright future and I'm proud of the advancements that have been made in native education and training, particularly language recovery. I’m also pleased to have participated in the development of new railway and truck/coach transportation programming, as well as increases in apprenticeship enhancement funding.

“With a newly approved strategic plan and a skilled group of dedicated staff, Sault College is poised to grow as more people choose to make college a preferred destination in the years ahead.”

Meyer said Zabudsky and Maundrell will work closley together to ensure a smooth transition. “We are fortunate that Judi has agreed to assume our college’s senior academic leadership position. During her 15 years of employment at the college, she has served as a member of faculty and held major administrative positions in the academic division.

“As a result, Judi is thoroughly versed in the issues and opportunities that require the vice president, academic’s attention in the immediate and longer-term futures. Our new vice president, academic is a dedicated professional with an exemplary record of accomplishments as a teacher and senior administrator.”

Maundrell taught in Sault College’s nursing program from 1988 until 2000. She then moved into administration, becoming dean of health and human services. After advancing into the senior management position of executive dean, academic in 2002, Maundrell retained administrative responsibility for the school of health sciences and has continued to serve as its dean.

Meyer said Maundrell has contributed substantially to Sault College’s progress in several key areas. Examples include the highly successful implementation of the Collaborative BScN program and development of a partnership agreement with the Ontario Provincial Police – Northeast Region and Sault Ste. Marie Police Services.

As a member of the president’s executive committee, Maundrell has been fully involved in addressing other college-wide matters. Recently, they have included finalization of a new five-year strategic plan and completion of the 2004-05 operating and capital budgets for presentation to the board of governors this month.

Before coming to Sault College, Maundrell practiced nursing for 12 years in several northwestern Ontario communities.

The vice president, academic-select earned a BScN at Lakehead University and later earned a master’s in education at Central Michigan University. She also completed adult teacher certificate requirements at Sault College.

Sault College serves approximately 8,000 part-time and full-time students annually through post-secondary, apprenticeship, adult training, employer-based contract training and continuing education programs and courses.
