Gabriel and Celeste Schoahs really know the benefits of breastfeeding.

They came out with mom Rachel today to tell everyone all about it in their first act of, er, community lactivism.

The siblings were part of a group of about 25 kids, moms and health care professionals who joined today's Breastfeeding Education and Support Team (BEST)’s World Breastfeeding Week Walk.

"We're walking around the downtown core at lunch time today to just let people know we're here," said BEST spokesperson, Brynlea Barbeau.

Barbeau led the group on a stroll in the sun and then back to a tent pitched on the lawn across from the library, where everyone enjoyed snacks donated by A Taste of Scandia and shared stories of their experiences.

Barbeau invited participants to visit La Leche League meetings at the Early Years Centre in Station Mall every third Monday of the month or contact the Algoma Health Unit Parent Child Information at 126 Queen Street if they have any questions or concerns about breastfeeding their babies. "We are trying to increase people's awareness in the community about breastfeeding and the support services available for it," Barbeau told SooToday.com.
