SAULTMED SAULT STE. MARIE PHYSICIAN RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION PROGRAM

************************* NOSM students begin clinical clerkship training in Sault Ste. Marie

The Sault Ste. Marie Physician & Recruitment Program, the Sault Area Hospital (SAH) and the Algoma District Medical Group ((ADMG) are pleased to announce the arrival of 12 medical students from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) who will be spending the next eight months in Sault Ste. Marie.

The 12 medical students have selected Sault Ste. Marie for their third-year comprehensive clinical clerkship year.

“We’re very pleased to welcome these students to SAH and to our community,” says Dr. Allan McLean, SAH chief of staff. “I hope that their experiences here will be positive and that our community will one day be home to some of these future physicians.”

The students will be learning and living in the community for eight months and they will spend time at both SAH and the Group Health Centre.

Several of the ADMG physicians whose practices are located at the Group Health Centre are acting as preceptors for the students.

Of the 12, three are originally from Sault Ste. Marie.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Physician Recruitment and Retention Program is happy to welcome these future physicians to the community for the very important third year of their training.

The R&R Program staff, along with the local NOSM co-ordinators, have arranged for the students’ housing requirements and are currently facilitating their orientation to the community.
