McMeeken Centre CO update

The W.J. McMeeken Centre on Goulais Avenue will remain closed over the weekend of Friday, March 3, 2017 to Sunday, March 5, 2017 inclusive as officials continue to investigate and remedy the carbon monoxide incident of Tuesday, February 28, 2017.

At present, the CO detector system is being repaired. In addition the City is adding extra detectors to be stationed throughout the facility.

Testing to date regarding the source of the emissions no longer centres on the ice resurfacing machine. Further engineering tests are scheduled throughout the weekend to determine other potential causes. An update will be provided Monday, March 6, 2017 or earlier if the investigation so identifies.

During this period staff is working with user groups to minimize the impact of the McMeeken Centre closure on them and the community.

The health and safety of citizens and staff is paramount. City staff continue to work diligently to identify the cause of this incident.
