A meeting is planned within the next few weeks between Mayor Matthew Shoemaker and Police Chief Hugh Stevenson to discuss whether tax dollars could be saved by having the city provide more administrative services to police.

Malcolm White, the city's chief administrative officer, confirmed the upcoming discussions in response to a question from Ward 2 Coun. Lisa Vezeau-Allen at Monday night's city council meeting.

"A meeting has been scheduled for the mayor, the chief and myself to discuss the next steps on this," White said.

"I know police have been doing their own review of their functions."

"I expect the chief will bring some information to us for that meeting."

"I would expect there would be more than one meeting needed before a report is brought to either the board or council or both," White said.
