Sault Mayor John Rowswell has decided he won't seek re-election when his current term is up in 2010.

Instead he's considering a stab at a seat in the House of Commons under the Federal Conservative banner.

The mayor has been increasingly critical of the Sault Ste. Marie's representation in Ottawa by New Democrat Tony Martn.

"I think I can be more effective in Ottawa," Rowswell told the Sault Star.

The mayor has said the community would do better with a stronger, more effective representative at the federal level.

During the last federal election. Rowswell did just about everything short of openly telling people to not vote for incumbent Martin.
