Demolition of several buildings on Queen Street West and Hudson Street is now very much underway.
People coming on and off the International Bridge were able to watch as backhoes started hauling down the buildings on Hudson Street and the back of some of the buildings on Queen Street, making way for the new International Bridge plaza.
Crews are expected to demolish the buildings as much as possible from the rear and then collapse the building facades back into the rubble to avoid depositing debris onto Queen Street.
Some of the buildings are not much more than the sidewalk away from the street.
Crews have been on site since Monday morning when safety barricades were set up.
Until today. most of the demolition work was done inside and on the roofs of the buildings slated for destruction.
